Minutes from October 12, 2024 Basket Guild Meeting:
Judy Brooks opened the meeting. The program today is making a Nantucket basket. Our guild has been gifted with a number of Nantucket molds. Martha has brought in some of them for us to see. She has created a catalog of them so we can check out any we wish to use. When we check one out we will need to pay a deposit which will be refunded when the mold is returned on time. A late fee may be charged if the mold is not returned on time and you have not called to make an extension.
Calendar for the rest of the year:
November class will be the Josephine Knot basket with two choices to be taught by Pati English. She will also teach us to make Josephine Knot ID tags.
December – Party and basket exchange
We have a new member today – Danielle Barnet. Welcome!
Debbie Hill is away on vacation now. She will be having surgery in December and will probably not be able to come to the meetings until next year.
Tina Few’s foot surgery has been postponed.
Sheila Foy is also preparing for an upcoming surgery.
Joyce Crain is asking for prayer for her sister, Fay DeRham.

April 23, 2024 Meeting Minutes Doloris Von Rosen Basket Guild
President Julie Honchar opened the meeting.
Minutes from the March meeting were accepted and pproved and everyone received them.
Treasurer”s Report: Patricia Henderson reported that we have a balance3 of $3,576.39
We have 30 rostered members to date. New rosters were handed out.

Next month ( May) Bonnie Geiger is teaching her stained basket with the special black handle. All sign ups and monies need to be paid to her today.
Debbie Wilson will be teaching Undulating Gourd at the June and July Meetings. She will provide gourds , prepped and ready to go, dyed in a neutral brown or black, spokes inserted and glued, and a variety of weaving materials. If participants would like to add in their own stuff, feel free. She is charging $48.00. The list so far includes:Anna Kay Singley, Jean Byrd, Sue McFarland , Gail Davison, Pat Wicker, Nancy Gable, Bonnie Geiger. If anyone else would like to do this project please get in touch with Debbie before June 1st.
Debbie will also ask at the May meeting which color choice for the gourd you prefer.
Julie brought up how to let Google determine spoke placement for a diameter of a round basket. You can printo out a template by asking Google to( example ) “ How to divide into 37 segments on a 6 inch circle? “
Julie also brought her Ipad and computer to show how to screen shot, open a PDF.
The art show; Earth into Art was a wonderful success at the Greenwood Art Center. Cathy Strawhorn, Julie Honchar, Pat Wicker, Louise Creswell and Debbie Wilson particapated and all had sales!
Sis says thanks for all the cards and she is on the mend. Robbie is doing well, having physical therapy and in a brace.
A great pot luck lunch followed with wonderful fellowship.

Minutes from November 11, 2023 meeting:
Judy Brooks opened the meeting.
Thank you to Denise and Patti for teaching the Christmas ornaments classes today.
Health concerns: We are thankful to see Debbie Wilson back today.
Debbie Rouse is improving and is more mobile, but we were incredibly sorry to hear of the loss of her dear Daughter.
Michele Hartwell fell last night and is having hip surgery for a broken hip. Please remember these ladies and in your
thoughts and prayers.
Denise reports that we have 128 weavers signed up for the weave-in in February and 18 teachers.
Please let us know if anyone has dietary concerns since we will be picking the menus soon.
We still need volunteers to help at the weave-in especially on Thursday to help the teachers and venders bring in their
supplies and on Sunday afternoon to help with clean-up.
Also, some people are bringing things to add to the goody bags so we will need some help adding those things to the
150+ bags.
The December meeting will be our Dirty Santa and our pot luck. Meeting time is the same as usual. Debbie Hill has
planned some kind of game. There will be no January meeting as usual. The February meeting will be on the 10th (two
weeks before the convention).
Remember the items for the raffle baskets. Please bring them in as soon as you can.
Nominations for Officers: It was suggested that all officers stay the same for the new year. All voted to keep the current
slate of officers for the new year.
Anyone who has a suggestion for baskets they would like to make next year, please let us know.
Please bring in something nice for the raffle at the weave-in.

Minutes from the October 14, 2023 meeting:
Debbie Hill opened the meeting.
Next month is going to be Christmas ornaments. We have three that will be taught. Each will take about an hour so we can learn all three if we wish.
Denise gave the treasurer's report. We have over 125 registered and 19 teachers for the weave-in to date. The hotel has stated that there are still some rooms available.
There is still a need for volunteers for the weave-in especially for set up on Thursday and clean up on Sunday. Sign-up sheets are available by the door.
The raffle will be on Saturday night of the weave-in. We will have three themed baskets to raffle. So if you see something you would like to donate to the baskets please pick it up. The basket themes are a gardening basket, an entertainment basket, and a spa basket. Gift cards can also be donated for the baskets. Please bring your donated items for the raffle baskets by Thursday night during set-up.

Minutes from August 12, 2023
Debbie Hill opened the meeting.
Peggy McCarson was present from Florida to teach her windows baskets.
Several of our members have health issues. Debbie Wilson is going through chemo. Debbie Rouse is also having health problems ( a stroke?).
September – We have several baskets that Denise and Patti have agreed to teach.
October – We did not have a program for October but we have decided to help Judy with the goody bags for the weave-in.
November – perhaps some simple Christmas ornaments.
December – the basket exchange
We have previously planned to have two more raffles to help with the costs of the weave-in. We now have decided that that is not necessary so no more raffles this year.
We have decided to put together three gift baskets for the weave-in to raffle there. The themes are gardening, entertainment, and spa/pampering.
Weave-in 2024 info: our web site: www. basketweaversofsc.com has the online brochure with the classes available to choose from. You can look through and see the baskets. On September 1, the site will go live and you can sign up for the classes you want at that time.
Since Julie has put in so many hours to get the weave-in information online, we have decided to gift her with her registration fee.
Denise gave her treasurers report. We have three new members. We made $170.00 at the raffle last month.
We still need volunteers to help with the weave-in. The sign-up sheets will be on the table near the door.
Everyone is asked to save plastic water jugs and bring them to the October meeting.

Minutes from July 8, 2023 meeting
Debby Hill opened the meeting with a word of thanks to everyone for all the donations for the church food bank.
Denise presented the treasurers report.
Gary and Janet have agreed to head the clean-up committee. Tina agreed to head the committee to tape on the table signs and the trash bags.
We had a White Elephant sale to raise money for the guild. We also brought in paper and canned goods for the church food bank.
The August meeting: Peggy McCarson will be back to teach her windows basket.
September will have several baskets being taught. More info will come later.
The Tennessee Basketry Convention is coming up July 19-22 in Knoxville and still has some class openings.

Minutes from June 10, 2023 meeting
Patti English opened the meeting noting that we had a smaller group this month due to the gourd festival. Some of our members were teaching there and others were attending the festival.
Reminder: Our weave-in will be February 22-24 instead of in June next year. It is still at the same location – the Embassy Suites.
Our July program will be a Woven Wall Hanging on a stick or a picture frame. Photos to come in the next newsletter. Bring a picture frame to act as a loom and weaving materials (round reed, seagrass, yarn, any fibrous material – naturals, …)
Sue McFarland was working on a loom weaving with wire spokes for the warp.
We will also have a White Elephant sale to raise money for the guild. Bring any treasures you would like to donate – not just basket related items.
July is also the paper and canned goods drive for the church food bank. Donate items such as: Toilet paper, toothbrushes, detergent, peanut butter, tuna, cereal, etc. Our guild has always been so generous and the Church appreciates it so much.
The August meeting: Peggy McCarson will be back to teach her windows basket.
September will have several baskets being taught. More info will come later.
Sue brought some ceramic bases that can be purchased to create some beautiful baskets.
The Tennessee Basketry Convention is coming up July 19-22 in Knoxville and still has some class openings.

Basketmakers Guild minutes from May 13, 2023
Debbie Hill opened the meeting. Health concerns were noted for Debbie Wilson who is doing well. Julie’s husband, Al is home and doing well.
Debbie met with the Simpsonville Arts Council. They asked if we could teach a basket class. They also want an exhibit and sale of our baskets sometime next year. Debbie asked for volunteers and said more information would be coming later.
Weave-In will be in February 2024. 18 teachers submitted proposals and photos of the baskets selected were on display at the meeting.
Martha White is organizing the vendors. Judy Brooks reported on filling the goody bags.
Our treasurer reported we had a sum of $12,809.95. The auction last month brought in $459. A few more memberships will be deposited.
Debbie thanked members who participated in the auction. Materials for our class today, weaving on wine bottles, was provided by the proceeds from the auction.
Pati English will teach 2 baskets next month. These are colorful baskets designed to hold up to 2 rolls of toilet paper.
July will be a stick weaving or a picture frame weaving to be used as a wall hanging. Teachers will be Doug Gaddis , Debbie Wilson, and Debbie Hill.
Peggy McCarson will teach in August. Multiple teachers will be leading us in September.
Denise Gilliam discussed appropriate items for donating to our raffle at the Weave-In. She will discuss this again.
Debbie Hill reminded everyone to bring paper goods to donate to the food bank at the church at our meeting in July. We will also have a white elephant style auction at the July meeting. Bring your items.
After Debbie adjourned the meeting, we had our pot luck lunch. After lunch Marsha, wife of our recently deceased member Terry Gerics, gave a moving talk about how much Terry had meant to others throughout her life and how much our guild had meant to her.

Basketmakers Guild Minutes from April 8, 2023
Debbie Hill opened the meeting.
Welcome back to Julie. We have missed you.
Judy visited Debbie Rouse and says that she is stable.
Thanks to all who came yesterday to help set up for the auction today.
Michele is exploring the possibility of setting up something for our guild on Instagram.
The Weave – In: Set- up date is February 21st, 2024. The Weave – In dates are the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.
Debbie Hill has sent out 23 invitations for teachers. She has received 3 replies so far.
Martha has been talking to venders.
Judy is in charge of goody bags and would welcome any recommendations.
Denise Gilham and Debbie Wilson are handling Hotel issues, and any other overall convention issues.
Treasurers report from Denise: There are still some Dues that have not been collected and no deposit has been made yet.
Debbie Wilson will teach the May meeting at no cost to us since the auction proceeds will cover our costs. Remember to bring a bottle to weave around. Lights will be inserted and a cork will be used to attach to the lights and to close the bottle.
The June meeting will be taught by Patti English. We will be making the toilet paper holder we saw at the Christmas meeting.
The July meeting will feature stick weaving. Everyone should bring a picture frame.
Peggy McCarson will teach the August meeting. The basket kit (window treatments) can be ordered until July 8th. Debbie Hill has some forms for the order.
Everyone remember to gather stuff for the Raffle at the convention.
Debbie Hill has an unfinished basket (Deloris Von Rosen pattern) she inherited that could be raffled off at the convention if it can be finished. It is very old. Diane Cameron has agreed to finish it if the reed can be revived.

Basketmakers Guild Minutes from March 11, 2023
Debbie Hill opened the meeting.
We have several members who are dealing with illness and consequently have not been able to attend. Debbie Rouse had a stroke. She was in the hospital and is going to be or already is going into rehab. We do not know where. Julie’s husband is still ill so she could not come. Prayers are asked for them both.
We had some volunteer jobs that needed to be filled and now have been: Gary Wells has volunteered to handle paper goods, Diane Cameron has volunteered to fill the Sunshine vacancy, and Martha White has volunteered to be our vender liaison for the convention next February. Thank you all very much!
Debbie Hill is the teacher liaison for the convention. She did got the letter out to the teachers that we are going to invite to submit basket ideas last week. Basket submissions should be coming in soon. The deadline for the submissions is April 30th. We will let them know May 15th.
There is a weaving cruise coming up February 2024. Peggy McCarson will be one of the teachers. She will be also be coming here to teach us sometime this year. The cruise is about $1500. The date is the 3rd-11th. Nine day cruise leaving from Fort Lauderdale going to Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. To register or get information contact: www.basketweavingcruise.com.
There is also a gourd gathering coming up in Waynesville in the beginning June 7th-11th. You can get information and register on the site www.gourdgathering.com. There will be a lot of different skills and classes.
Debbie Wilson won 2nd place in the national competition for a piece that she worked on for a year.
Welcome to the two new ladies who have joined us today; Rose Schecter and Claudia Sastre.
Outreach opportunities:
Some farmers markets in the area have invited us to have a booth; Travelers Rest and Greer. There is also something new that came up. The Simpsonville Art Center has written to say they are planning their schedule for 2024 and would like to feature some of our artists in the art gallery in 2024. There is no fee and we are welcome to sell our work. The art center does not take any commission on our sales.
They are looking for someone who would be interested in teaching a basket making class in Simpsonville at the Art Center. Call Debbie for more information.
Treasurers report from Denise: We have had new memberships come in and the hotel deposit has come through. Our balance as of March 11th is $12,295.85.
All will be needed on February 22nd to help set up for our convention next year.

Minutes from February 11, 2023 meeting:
Debbie Hill opened the meeting with a reminder that we all need to get our membership dues sent in to Denise. Forms are available if anyone needs them.
There are 2 opportunities for service if anyone would like to volunteer: we need a sunshine person to handle cards for sick members or similar events that may come up and we need a paper goods coordinator to keep track of and let us know when we need to resupply.
Gary Wells volunteered to handle the paper goods.
Public outreach opportunities were discussed. If anyone lives in an area that has a neighborhood blog, a post to your blog may be a way to reach prospective new members. Some of the local farmers markets may be another avenue that could be both a public outreach venue but also may provide an opportunity for members to sell some of their baskets.
During March and April meetings Martha and Diane will teach the Elsa basket --- starting in March and completed in April. Be sure to let Martha White or Diane Cameron know if you want to buy a kit for the class. If you want to only buy the directions and the base for the basket but still wish to join the classes you will need to bring your tools and supplies. The supplies needed are:
Elsa basket supplies: all your basket making tools
Glue
½ “ FO for spokes
¼” FO for weavers
#2 natural for twining base
#2 black ebony for triple twine
3/16 “ FO space dyed
The weave-in is 12 months away in February 2024! Judy is in charge of the goody bags. There will be more volunteers needed as the time approaches.
There was also some discussion about a possible stick weaving project sometime in the future.
