This basket starts with a 6” x 10” racetrack slotted wooden base. The basket has natural stakes and dyed weavers. The lower two thirds of the basket is woven in an over 2, under 1 twill pattern. There is quad twining with smoked and natural round reed. The upper portion of the basket is over, under and woven in short rows to create the shaped side. The rim is quad twined. The handle is wrapped and includes a piece of dyed reed and round smoked reed to create the design. Color options will be available

Nantucket Treat Tin

Students will learn the basics of setting up and finishing a Nantucket basket. Students will insert cane staves into the base and begin weaving with cane in a twill pattern. Basket will be woven over a galvanized tin container which will stay in the basket. Base, rim and lid are cherry and will be pre-finished. This tin may be used for your furry friends or your human friends to keep their treats in. Student will need to indicate on their registration form which type of knob they would like. (dog, cat or plain white) Knobs are ceramic. Tools provided for class use.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced basket weaver, this class will allow you to put your imagination to use. Sweetgrass baskets are coiled with sweetgrass and Southern long-leaf pine needles and lashed with strips of palmetto. Techniques taught will enable students to design a variety of shapes and sizes of sweetgrass baskets. This is an art form stemming from West Africa over 300 years ago. No water is required. Scissors only. Additional tools will be provided during class

Arrowpoints and Blackbird Eyes Tray

This tray is made with a 4-1 twill number rhythm found in tribal weavings of the American Southeastern Indians and the African Cong Yombe. This design has many breaks where opposites create symmetry and change while emphasizing a dynamic visual effect. The sides are a 2-2 twill.

Cestino Grande means literally Large Basket in Italian. And large it is! Roomy enough for multiple uses in any room of your home. The accent colors are black and rust. Techniques include weaving a filled base, twining, triple twining with an arrow weave and the use of overlays. Skids are woven on the bottom for extra strength. Pretty round leather braided handles really set this basket off!

Spokes are inserted into a prepared slotted racetrack base with hints given to keep spokes tight. Students will use either 2-rod or 3-rod twining on base and separating middle section. The twill is a stop start weave, moving over spokes as the weavers go over a black reed insert. Emphasis is on keeping the sides going straight up. This 2/2 twill is done in a continuous weave using dyed and natural reed. Its shape starts in a square as you go up the sides then it goes in-ward to a graceful rounded shape. Rim is stitched on with waxed linen. The long leather handle lets you hang it up or sit it down, allows it to have many uses. Makes a statement where ever you put it.
